Underbrush Removal

Underbrush are the pesky little trees that grow in the shade of bigger trees.  Underbrush is also the shrubs and small trees that are too big to mow with a lawn mower.  Removing the underbrush will open the area on your property improving the aesthetics, allowing for more air flow, and will reduce the areas for rodents to call home.

Clearing the underbrush from around trees isn’t only beneficial to make the area look better.  Some underbrush (called “sap suckers”) can actually drain nutrients from the “host” trees and might eventually kill them.  Removing the underbrush will improve the health of the bigger trees by giving them access to more nutrients in the soil.  It will also allow water to flow freer without the congestion of smaller shrubs and will provide this much needed resource to the trees by reducing the competition for water.  Who doesn’t love driving by a well maintained lot with beautiful native oak trees in a field of grass?  Removing any underbrush gives the oak trees a chance to thrive.

Standing water in our area increases the chances of a mosquito infestation.  Congested land full of underbrush blocks air flow which might lead to additional standing water.  Not only can we help clear the underbrush, but we can also help to level the land by spreading dirt or sand.  This will give grass a better chance of growing without the puddling water and by adding more access to sunlight.

Underbrush is also the perfect habitat for rodents and insects which most of us want to keep at bay.  Clearing the growth will drive away the pests which can be dangerous, like snakes, or hazardous to your home or barn, like termites.  ADCO Forestry can work with you to create an open area not only to reduce the population of unwanted creatures, but also to make room for livestock or deer.  Removing the underbrush will create more room for grazing and a better habitat for the animals that we love.

If you recently purchased property with an overgrown field or have taken a new interest in utilizing your field or pasture, we can help get you started by cutting the underbrush.  We have a few different methods to clear the overgrowth and return the field to a manageable state without destroying your lawn mower.  If needed, we can utilize our forestry mulcher which will grind up the overgrowth leaving mulch on the ground which might be beneficial to the soil.  In addition, we have tractor mowing as an option which is also known as “brush hogging”.  We’d love to work with you to determine the best solution for your property.

Clearing underbrush is important for fence line maintenance.  A new fence is an expensive investment and maintaining the growth under the fence can be time consuming.  ADCO Forestry can help in this area by clearing the way for a new fence or by simply maintaining the growth under and near the fence.

To create a better view on your property with less underbrush congestion, please give us a call.  ADCO Forestry can work with you to determine the best solution to meet your needs.
